THIS IS MY CITY
Hello, friends:
This is my city.
Jaén (Spanish: [xaˈen]) is a city in
south-central Spain, the name is derived from the Arabic word Jayyan,
(crossroads of caravans).
It is the capital of the province of Jaén. It
is located in Andalusia.
We can enter Andalucia through its main
gateway. And the only Jaén passage way, like in many western films, is to
squeeze through the rocky steep mountain path called Desfiladero de Despeñaperros.
Having gone through this mountain pass, rows and
rows of olive trees with their silvery leaves stick out against the reddish
unspoiled background. This is Jaen, leading world producer of olive oil and
olives.
Jaén is
known as the World Capital of Olive Oil, because it's the biggest
producer of this liquid gold (as we refer to it).
In the center town
there is a beautiful Cathedral built between the 16 th century and 18 th
century in Renaissance style.
Arab Baths: Located in the narrow streets in
the old quarter, underneath the Palacio de Villadompardo, these 11th century
baths once belonged to Ali, a Moorish king of Jaen.
Sta. Catalina’s Castle: Situated on top a mountain looks at
the city from above.
My city has many monuments, palaces, churches,
monasteries, arches ...
Jaén has a great University.
In Jaén the eating of is “tapas”very common;
numerous bars exist where for the price of a beer (around €1.50) one can
purchase a tapa, which consists of a small plate of food for one person.
You're welcome to my city, Jaén!!
